The room went very quiet...
Hello,
On Wednesday morning, we officially kicked off the first session of our Marketing Masterclass.
We have spent weeks preparing for it.
Reading.
Researching.
Building exercises.
Changing slides.
Adding examples.
Removing examples.
Trying to create a session that didn’t just give people more information...
But actually changed the way they think.
Then something happened.
The room went very quiet.
Not because nobody had anything to say.
Quite the opposite.
It was because everyone had just realised something.
Something that, if we’re honest, many of us have never really questioned before.
And that is exactly why I created this Masterclass.
Not to teach people how to make prettier social media posts.
Not to teach another Canva trick.
Not to hand out another content calendar.
But to challenge the assumptions we’ve been building our marketing on for years.
The first uncomfortable question
One of our first discussions was around visibility.
Not social media.
Not advertising.
Visibility.
Because they’re not the same thing.
Most businesses think they have a marketing problem.
Many actually have a visibility problem.
You cannot become someone’s first choice...
If they never discover you in the first place.
It sounds obvious.
Yet when we started unpacking how today’s clients actually discover businesses, the conversation changed very quickly.
Then we introduced something called the Wellness Client Motivation Map.
I won’t give too much away.
(You’ll have to join us for that.)
But we explored something every wellness business and everyone in the business should know.
Then came the second exercise...
This one caused even more discussion.
I asked everyone a simple question.
What are you really selling?
The answers started exactly as I expected.
“We sell an experience.”
“We sell results.”
“We sell skincare.”
“We sell wellness.”
But the deeper we went...
The more people realised they weren’t actually selling any of those things.
And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
đ
That was the foundation.
And it had to be.
Because before we can talk about AI...
Before we talk about content...
Before we talk about databases...
Before we talk about campaigns...
We first have to understand what we’re actually trying to communicate.
If that foundation isn’t right...
Everything built on top of it becomes much harder.
One message landed in my inbox after the session.
It came from Jenelle, owner of Urban Oasis in Guyana, South America.
She wrote:
“Today’s session reminded me that great service alone doesn’t get you booked anymore. Being seen has become a prerequisite.”
I couldn’t have summarised Session One any better myself.

Want to see what everyone else thought?
Rather than tell you...
I’ll let the people in the room do that.
đ Watch some of the comments from the end of Session One below.

One thing I hope you’ll think about this week...
Ask yourself one question.
If someone had never heard of your business before today...
Would they understand what makes you different?
Not after reading twenty Instagram posts.
Not after browsing your website for half an hour.
Within the first few seconds.
Because if they can’t...
Your marketing problem may not actually be your marketing.
It may be your message.
Hugs and kisses from me,
Marisa
